Display advertising is a form of online promotion which uses graphical advertisements (often called "banners") which combine text and images, and sometimes videos and/or audio as well. Typically, these banners are used for branding purposes, although they can also include specific calls to action such as elements which persuade the viewer to make a purchase or sign up for email newsletters.
