Pay-per-click marketing — sometimes called "PPC", "CPC", or "SEM" (for "Search Engine Marketing") — is an online advertising approach in which companies present advertisements near search results on the pages of search engines such as Google, Amazon, Bing, Yahoo, and other second-tier and niche search engines. Each time a searcher clicks on a company's advertisement, the company pays the search engine a fee (thus the term "pay-per-click").
